Under 9’s Game Wrapup - Round 1- Sunday April 29th

posted Apr 30, 2012, 11:17 PM by MPFC Juniors

MPFC Junior Lions .vs. Colonel Light Gardens FC

After much anticipation and practising, the eager Under 9’s team hit the paddock at 0830am this morning, .vs. Colonel Light Gardens. It was great to see everyone at the match on time with a keen spirit in the air. Young Ryan Chapman took the captaincy today, as he celebrated his 7th birthday. The team also celebrated first games for the MP Lions, for Hayden S, Dylan G, and Bradley.

Two great marks early in the first quarter, by last year’s highest goal scorer Ben Davies, saw the team with two goals on the board as the teams ended the first quarter even at 2.1.13 a piece. The first quarter highlighted some spirited and talented play by the MP Lions which helped to make the scoring opportunities possible in the forwards.

The team got into the swing of the tackling in Under 9’s and gave as good as they got. Colonel Light got the better of us on the scoreboard in quarters 2 and 3, with the score MPFC 20, CLGFC 47. Morale was a bit low at the end of the third term, as we suffered from not manning up, not creating opportunities/not using loud voices, and not chasing down the ball carrier.

The team ended the game off with a terrific 4th quarter, which saw CLGFC scoreless. Two great individual goals from Hayden Chapman helped the scoreboard along, with the final result being only a 14 point margin. Final score was MPFC 33, CLGFC 47.

It was a great star to the season and the coaching staff and parents were very proud of the efforts the team gave today.
